The body has international membership with its secretarial office based in New Delhi, India.

Besides holding scientific meetings, it watches and advises the legislation affecting the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and allied subjects. It advises other associations, voluntary agencies, governmental agencies on matters affecting the interests and development of PMR including standardization of aids and appliances, problems of the Rehabilitation of the persons with disability.

It holds annual conference at national/international level besides holding workshops and Continuing Medical Education Programs, accredited by the Medical Council of India.

It also publishes a scientific journal: Indian Journal of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.  Rehabtalk is the official News-letter of the association.

It offers travel fellowship (Dr WG Rama Rao's Travel Fellowship) to the budding physiatrists.  

Membership is open to all medical doctors working in the field of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, from India and Abroad.  Membership form is available on the 'membership' page.
